Man Fell From Sky

That's a scenario I've been running across a lot lately. It's just weird. In this particular case the fellow never even hit the ground. After watching Star Trek 2009 again last night (I never watch movies more than once because they're predictable but this is the fourth time I've seen ST - it's that good!) I was wondering if Scotty has been doing some transporter practise.

Any ideas what would explain this incredible story?
